Amazon is considering increasing its investment in OpenAI competitor Anthropic to potentially billions of dollars, TechCrunch reports, marking its first financial commitment since a $4 billion deal last year.
The new investment is structured similarly to the last time, but Amazon wants Anthropic to use Amazon-developed silicon to train its AI on Amazon Web Services, while Anthropic prefers to use Nvidia chips.
Anthropic is reportedly expected to consume more than $2.7 billion in 2024 for training and scaling its AI products. Anthropic is currently negotiating a new round of financing at a valuation of $40 billion. So far, Anthropic has raised $9.7 billion, close to OpenAI's $21.9 billion.
