According to CoinDesk, Polygon Labs has released a new component called "Type 1 prover" that allows any network compatible with the Ethereum EVM standard to become a second-layer network supported by zero-knowledge proofs and connect to Polygon's broader ecosystem. This technical achievement is considered a major breakthrough, and even Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin sees it as the key to making auxiliary second-layer networks almost equivalent to the basic blockchain. The launch of Type 1 prover is part of Polygon's pursuit of the Polygon 2.0 roadmap, which focuses on making its ecosystem more interconnected and interoperable, using "zero-knowledge" or ZK cryptography as a core technology. Polygon currently uses Type 2 prover, which means it is not completely equivalent to the functionality that exists on the main Ethereum blockchain. Type 1 prover has been open sourced and is available on GitHub, licensed under MIT and Apache 2.0.
