He emphasized that Rollups is still the gold standard with unmatched security properties. Especially from the perspective of developer experience, nothing can compare to the simplicity of application developers not having to consider ownership graphs and incentive flows.
However, Plasma allows us to completely sidestep the data availability issue, significantly reducing transaction fees. Plasma can be an important security upgrade for chains that are supposed to be validation chains. This year, ZK-EVM finally matured, providing a great opportunity to re-explore this design area and come up with more efficient structures to simplify the developer experience and protect user funds.
