According to Cointelegraph, the Kentucky Public Service Commission has rejected a proposed contract that would have allowed a mining company to receive discounted electricity prices from the power company. In an order on August 28, the commission rejected a contract between Ebang International and Kentucky Power Company for a $50 million investment in a cryptocurrency mining facility in Louisa. According to the documents, Ebang plans to run a 100-megawatt mining operation by 2024 and then increase the load to 250 megawatts. The details of the proposed contract (partially confidential) include Kentucky Power Company providing Ebang with 10 years of discounted service. Environmental groups Earthjustice and Greenpeace praised the commission's decision as a victory for ordinary energy consumers in Kentucky.
