According to Cointelegraph, U.S. regulators asked Nvidia to restrict exports of artificial intelligence (AI) chips to "certain Middle Eastern countries" in its most recent quarterly report.
The new rules affect Nvidia’s A100 and H100 chips, which help speed up machine learning tasks, according to the report. Nvidia did not specify the Middle Eastern countries affected.
According to Reuters, US regulators have also issued a similar ban to Nvidia's direct competitor Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), banning the export of advanced AI chips to some Middle Eastern countries.
Nvidia said in its quarterly report that the new regulatory filing would not have an "immediate material impact" on its business or account for a "meaningful portion" of its revenue. However, the company said in a separate statement that it is cooperating with the U.S. government on the matter.
