According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on January 10, Cryptonews reported that the Russian Ministry of Finance has begun disposing of Bitcoin assets confiscated in the Infraud hacker organization investigation. According to the Russian state news agency TASS, the first batch to be liquidated comes from approximately 10 million dollars' worth of Bitcoin assets from former investigation committee investigator Marat Tambiev.
Tambiev was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2023 for accepting bribes from the hacker organization, with a total of 1032.1 BTC involved in the case. However, since Tambiev stored the Bitcoin in multiple wallets, law enforcement needs to apply for court rulings for different wallets separately. Currently, the first batch of liquidated assets is stored in a Ledger Nano X hardware wallet. Additionally, the prosecution plans to liquidate his properties in the Moscow region and a Honda motorcycle.
It is noteworthy that Tambiev received Bitcoin bribes multiple times between 2020 and 2022, assisting hacker organizations in transferring crypto assets valued at approximately 13.7 billion rubles (about 137 million USD). There are two other individuals involved in the case, one of whom was sentenced to 9 years in prison, while the other is still at large.
