On January 7, local time in the United States, Trump held a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This press conference was initially promoted as an announcement regarding economic development, revealing plans by Dubai developer Damac Properties to invest $20 billion in building data centers in the U.S. However, Trump subsequently discussed several new topics related to U.S. geopolitical issues. In what can be described as a 'shocking' press conference, Trump proposed four new directions: increasing military spending by NATO member states, making Canada the 51st state of the U.S., not relinquishing military control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, and renaming the Gulf of Mexico to 'American Gulf' in order to reclaim the Panama Canal.
This news has sent shockwaves around the world; it seems to signal the onset of war. The current situation is uncertain, as the international economy is not doing well, coupled with the Russia-Ukraine war serving as a wake-up call for the U.S. Why? Because the Russia-Ukraine war has lasted for three years so far; while wars can be quick, there are many underlying issues. The Russian president aims to cripple the European economy, and if the U.S. were to wage a similar war, Trump's goal would be to control both South America and North America. This ambition will not be realized, so I conclude that Trump is just speaking nonsense.
