Crypto gambling operations have come under fire again, with prosecutors expanding their indictments to include operators of cryptocurrency-based gambling websites. Ms. Lee, a 30-year-old woman and alleged operator of a 2 trillion won cryptocurrency gambling site, is facing additional charges of concealing criminal proceeds and false accusation. These charges are in addition to the existing indictment for opening a gambling establishment. According to the Korea Economic Daily, Ms. Lee allegedly ran a Bitcoin-based gambling site from April 2018 to August 2021, raking in a staggering 24,613 Bitcoins from users in Korea and elsewhere. The site's illegal operations took place in Thailand. The move by prosecutors reflects the increasing scrutiny of cryptocurrency gambling operations, which have been proliferating in recent years. These operations are often linked to allegations of fraud, money laundering, and other illegal activities. The indictments serve as a warning to those involved in cryptocurrency gambling, reminding them that their actions may have serious legal consequences. As regulators worldwide continue to crack down on these illicit activities, operators and users alike should be aware of the potential risks involved.
