When initially buying my preferred cryptocurrencies, I usually choose to do so during relatively quiet times, gradually building my position in batches, buying small amounts during small dips and larger amounts during significant dips. I generally do not buy during major market rallies; I just wait. I try to reduce the price risk of a single transaction through batch buying.
Of course, depending on the capital situation, if it's a small position increase, I buy whenever I have the money. For things I am optimistic about, I basically buy in one go without dragging my feet.
