Coinbase's Layer 2 network Base's Core Developer, Jesse Pollak, recently took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the relationship between Base and Ethereum. Pollak argued that "Base's relationship with Ethereum isn't a zero-sum game but rather symbiotic." He explained that "Base and other L2s are taking the Ethereum roadmap and running with it. As Base grows, so does Ethereum. We believe that building together and growing the pie is much more likely to succeed than trying to carve each other up and having a zero-sum competition." Pollak's comments echo those made by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in the past. Buterin has said that he believes that L2s are essential for the long-term growth of Ethereum. He has also said that he believes that L2s can help to make Ethereum more scalable, secure, and decentralized. The relationship between Base and Ethereum is a good example of how L2s can benefit both the L2 and the underlying blockchain. As Base grows, it will help to drive adoption of Ethereum and make it more scalable, secure, and decentralized.
