Asian young man steals 200 million USD in BTC
I just came across this guy named Malone Lam on Douyin. Have you heard of him?? He is only 20 years old this year and stole Bitcoin worth 230 million USD, but just a few days later he was sent to prison.
He pretended to be a Google customer service representative, using a forged number to call clients of a credit union, successfully obtaining their personal account information. Then he impersonated a Gemini customer service agent to tell these clients that their accounts had been hacked, convincing victims to transfer their Gemini funds to a controlled illegal wallet. In a shocking twist, he was able to view a victim's Bitcoin account private key through a screen sharing software called AnyDesk. He then directly transferred 4,100 Bitcoins.
What I don't understand is that he didn't even try to hide it; he and his accomplices spent over a million dollars that night at a nightclub. I also saw on Douyin that he liked a girl and bought her a lot of Birkin bags, but when she said she had a boyfriend, she rejected him. There are also claims on Douyin that they bought houses, cars, and jewelry in Los Angeles and Miami, but so far I haven't found any more detailed videos. Right now, the most controversial thing on Douyin is that he must be very smart to steal so much money, but his series of actions seem quite foolish—he didn't enjoy it for long before getting himself caught. Who spends a million dollars at a nightclub on a Thursday for no reason… What does everyone think about this? I excitedly came to Xiaohongshu to catch up on the gossip, but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know more information?
