According to Cointelegraph, the managing partner of Dragonfly Capital said that AI agents will continue to dominate the market in 2025, but warned that there could be a "sudden reversal" by 2026.

AI Agent Tokens vs. Memecoins

According to the venture capitalist, AI agent tokens will continue to outperform memecoins in 2025, but their momentum may wane by 2026.

“Memem coins will continue to lose market share to ‘AI agent’ coins. I see this as a migration from financial nihilism to financial over-optimism,” Haseeb Qureshi, managing partner at Dragonfly Capital, said in a Jan. 1 X post.

Prospects of the AI agent craze

Kureshi pointed out that the 'AI agent craze' may continue until 2025, but it will not last forever. As more advanced AI products emerge, people will lose interest in social media chatbots.

'This will ultimately fade away. This isn't a long-term AI disruption worth focusing on, but it will be a point of concern for CT, as it is the most social,' he said.

AI agent chatbots have become popular in the cryptocurrency industry, providing market insights and price predictions for crypto users.

In the past 24 hours, the total trading volume of meme coins has decreased by nearly 21.5%, while the trading volume of top AI and data tokens has increased by 7.95%.

Despite the total market capitalization of top AI and data tokens declining by 1.66% in the past 30 days, the total market capitalization of meme coins dropped by 17.7% during the same period.

Future risks

However, Kureshi warned that AI tokens and agents are still susceptible to manipulation by malicious actors: 'Current agents can be easily manipulated and may say crazy things that harm their brand or be hacked to steal their resources.'

Kureshi stated that the AI agent chatbot 'Aixbt' has been 'doing quite well' in aggregating data from different projects. However, its long-term relevance remains uncertain with the emergence of more agents.

'By next year and the next generation of agents, perhaps Aixbt will hallucinate less and provide deeper, smarter insights. But how much will you really notice? For most people, the experience may still feel the same,' Kureshi said.

'Sudden reversal' in 2026

Kureshi predicts a 'sudden reversal' by 2026. 'The crypto industry needs some time to get tired of shiny things,' he said.

'Chatbots will become so ubiquitous that people will get tired of them. The sentiment will reverse,' he said.

In the past week, the best-performing AI tokens among the top 100 cryptocurrencies include Virtuals Protocol (up 57.3%), Bittensor (up 10.6%), and Theta Network (up 6.11%).

Crypto trader Mckenna told his 94,700 X followers in a post on January 1 that they 'believe we will see a whole new set of AI liquidity opportunities in 2025.'

'Just pay attention, and you'll make money,' Mckenna said.

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley recently remarked that the rise of AI agents reminds him of the beginning of the corporate era two centuries ago. 'I think this is very similar to the emergence of companies in the 19th century: able to contract on their own, hire humans, own assets, and outlive humans,' Horsley said.
