The Solana ecosystem will benefit from at least two major airdrops in January, which will distribute hundreds of millions of tokens to select users. The first airdrop planned for the new year will come from Solana layer-2 gaming network Sonic on January 7, which will allow users to receive 7% of the native SONIC token supply. The other airdrop will be from Jupiter, known for its JUP coin project. Apart from this, 6 altcoin projects outside the Solana ecosystem will also conduct major airdrops. Here are the details:

Sonic to Distribute 2.4 Million Tokens
According to a post on the X platform on January 1, Sonic announced that only 15% of the total supply of 2.4 billion SONIC tokens will be available for trading during the airdrop. Approximately 8% of these tokens have been pre-allocated to “early supporters,” while 7% will be airdropped to early claimants. The only way to participate in the SONIC airdrop is via social media platform TikTok. Sonic has chosen to reward its users directly, using its SonicX game built natively within TikTok, similar to mini-games on Telegram. Sonic raised $12 million in a Series A funding round in June 2024 and also surpassed $50 million worth of staked SOL in its delegation pool in November by partnering with Solana staking layer Solayer.

Jupiter to Airdrop $625 Million
Jupiter, a decentralized exchange aggregator on Solana, is set to airdrop approximately $625 million worth of JUP tokens to eligible users in January. Jupiter Uplink announced on the X platform on December 27 that a total of 700 million JUP tokens will be distributed for this airdrop. 2.3 million wallet addresses will be eligible for this airdrop, and users will have the opportunity to earn more JUP by performing certain actions. Users with a trading volume of over $800 will receive 50 JUP, while those who reach $14 million in trading volume will receive 20,000 JUP tokens. Additionally, Jupiter users who engage with features such as perpetual futures, dollar-cost averaging (DCA), or limit orders will earn additional JUP tokens. The Jupiter and Sonic airdrops are the second and third largest airdrops on Solana. On the other hand, the Pudgy Penguins airdrop distributed $1 billion worth of PENGU tokens to eligible users on Solana.

Other Notable Airdrops Apart from Solana
In the first month of 2025, a number of notable airdrops will take place outside the Solana ecosystem:

  • Sundog (SUNDOG): On January 3, 2025, SUNDOG tokens will be distributed to users who connect their wallets via Trust Wallet.

  • Chromia (CHR): On January 15, 2025, those who stake their native $CHR tokens will have the opportunity to participate in the @colorpool_xyz airdrop snapshot.

  • DRV: Will be released on January 15, 2025, with 5% of the supply allocated to $sENA stakers.

  • OpSec (OPSEC): Between December 11, 2024 and January 20, 2025, a random snapshot window will open for $OPSEC holders.

  • SuperRare (RARE): Between December 19, 2024 and February 6, 2025, the “Season III $RARE” airdrop will be active.

  • Eigenlayer (EIGEN): Between December 20, 2024 and February 20, 2025, ReALT stakers will be able to claim EIGEN tokens from Eigenlayer’s 1 million token donation.
