Consumers no longer need to fear buying inappropriate dye colors and ending up with strange hair colors that make them hesitant to go out.

Ulta Beauty's GLAMlab Hair Try On allows users to take selfies or upload photos of their faces and models to preview different hair color styles. Juan Cardelino, director of computer vision and digital innovation at Ulta Beauty, stated that consumers need to experience new hairstyles and makeup styles before purchasing.
Ulta Beauty has 1,400 stores across the United States, and its brands provide samples to consumers in many retail locations. The mobile app is prepared to integrate virtual and physical stores, with product links available for consumers to purchase items.
NVIDIA StyleGAN2 allows hair dye colors and facial simulations to exhibit realism.
Hair Try On is Ulta Beauty's first generative AI application developed using Nvidia's StyleGAN2 neural network architecture, running AI inference on NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs. The computation to simulate a new hairstyle takes about 5 seconds, with subsequent generation of each new hairstyle taking about 1 second, without distorting the user's face.
Ulta is planning to combine virtual hairstyling with in-store services. Hairstylists can use the app to showcase new styles to clients, allowing them to preview how they will look after the new style is applied, thus avoiding the risk of ruining the client's hair color.
In addition to the experience of trying new styles, the AI virtual styling application allows users to unleash their creativity by taking multiple selfies and DIY experimenting with new styles, helping them decide whether to order hair dye.
With the new generative AI experience, an older person can change their silver hair to green or purple. Everyone can quickly transform into a new style and become an internet celebrity.

StyleGAN is a generative AI model architecture specifically designed for generating virtual faces.
