One of Netflix's biggest global hits, the series Squid Game entered its second season making a nod to the cryptocurrency market, by placing one of its characters as a scammer in this market.

After a success in 2021, the second season returned to Netflix starting last Thursday (26).

[Spoiler Alert, stop here if you haven't seen it yet]

A scene that went viral in the community occurs when the character asks to have access to his phone, since the price of his cryptocurrencies could be falling. Thus, if he suffered a loss, he would contact the team that organizes the games for the problem.

However, to his surprise, the hooded men knew his entire history as a fraudulent cryptocurrency promoter. South Korean, contestant number 333, named in the series as Lee Myung-gi, ended up being exposed in front of all the other contestants.

Cryptocurrency scammer from Netflix series Squid Game had a cryptocurrency channel and disappeared after applying a rug pull

After the man asks for access to his cell phone and is unable to do so, his life appears on a big screen so that all the characters can learn more about his story.

Thus, the hooded figures with geometric figures, who wear red overalls, show that he maintained a YouTube channel called MG Coin. Of course, the story is only fictional and is not a real story of the cryptocurrency market.

In any case, the scammer promoted a fictitious cryptocurrency called “Dalmatian” on his channel, causing his followers to lose billions in South Korean Won, the currency of South Korea. As in common real-life cases of rug pull in the market, the YouTuber then deleted his channel and left people at a great loss.

The video that tells the scammer's story also says that he is still wanted for fraud and owes 1.8 billion Won to his victims. Watch the scene shared by the community below.

As is common practice in the cryptocurrency market, memecoins named “Dalmatian” and “MG Coin” have already emerged in the community, mainly on networks such as Solana.

Netflix cites cryptocurrency market again in scam plots

As has been the case with its latest productions involving cryptocurrencies, Netflix's new series only shows the dark side of cryptocurrencies.

Before mentioning the scammer in the series Round 6, for example, Netflix's last production on this market was “Crypto Fraud”, a documentary.

In any case, the appearances of cryptocurrencies in series on the streaming service help to popularize the topic, and can lead the most curious to study Bitcoin technology seriously, without falling for fake cryptocurrency scams.
