Hamster Kombat, the popular Telegram-based tap-to-earn game, has announced plans to launch a layer-2 (L2) network on The Open Network (TON).

The initiative follows a community vote supporting the creation of a dedicated blockchain to expand the utility of the Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) token.

Hamster Kombat launches its own blockchain network

The new blockchain, reportedly called the Hamster Network, will form the basis of the broader Hamsterverse ecosystem. Developers have confirmed that work on the network is already underway.

Additionally, in the coming weeks, the team plans to present a detailed roadmap and implementation strategy for the DAO, focusing on strengthening Hamster Kombat’s position in the decentralized gaming industry.

Voting on the second proposal is over! The DAO community has spoken: there will be a Hamster L2 blockchain built on TON! We will be serving our community, the largest web3 community in the world, with the technology base they requested, the project posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The community has already supported high-profile initiatives, including events with a $1 billion prize pool for token holders. These decisions reflect the growing enthusiasm for the platform’s expansion and its broader ambitions in blockchain-based gaming.

Tap-to-Earn Games in Decline

After initial hype in Q2 and Q3 of this year, tap-to-earn games on Telegram have seen interest wane in recent months. According to the latest reports, interest in these games dropped by almost 80% between June and December 2024.

Furthermore, it is visible in TON’s on-chain activity. Data shows that the number of monthly active wallets has dropped by almost 50% since October.

However, Hamster Kombat has been widely hailed as a success in 2024. Its NFT integration plans also fueled a 400% increase in NFT activity on Telegram in October.

However, following a failed airdrop, the platform experienced a significant drop in user numbers and token value. In three months, its user base dropped from 300 million to 41 million, and the HMSTR token lost almost 60% of its value.

Additionally, in November, the team announced the launch of the game's second season, which promises to revamp the gameplay. Players will have opportunities to manage virtual game studios, create custom spaces, recruit team members, and conduct tests, marking a major change in the game's dynamics.

However, interest in tap-to-earn games continues to decline due to lack of utility and repetitive gameplay. It will be interesting to see if users rediscover interest in Hamster Kombat after the launch of its new L2 network.
