Solana-based meme coins are showing rapid growth with creator-driven momentum and low cost, up 6,000% YTD led by POPCAT.
Ethereum is home to popular meme coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu, but competition from Solana’s cheap ecosystem is becoming increasingly fierce. Base Chain’s rising star Brett (BRETT) is up 12,800%, but the meme coin is still failing to catch up with Ethereum and Solana in terms of adoption.
Meme coins often attract attention in the cryptocurrency world with their rapid rise and surprising movements. However, they are not yet the largest token category in terms of market value. Meme coins are ranked 21st in the cryptocurrency market in terms of market value.
However, the rise of meme coins has been volatile. It seems that 2025 could be a significant year in terms of growth. Therefore, BeInCrypto analyzed the best meme tokens and their performance on the most popular chains.
Solana Based Meme Coins
Solana-based meme coins have attracted a lot of attention in the cryptocurrency market this year. While tokens like Pudgy Penguins, Fartcoin, and Gigachad stand out, POPCAT has been the most notable. POPCAT, which has increased by 6,000% since the beginning of the year, rose to $2.10 in mid-November. However, it has since lost value, falling to $0.74, a 64% decline.
In the short term, it seems difficult for POPCAT to break out of the top and rise further. However, if the token can regain $1.00 as support, its chances of recovery and growth may increase. Speaking about the future of Solana-based meme coins, OKX Global CCO Lennix Lai stated that there is a promising future. However, if investors take profits, POPCAT’s chances of recovery may decrease.
The Rivalry Between Ethereum and Solana$ETH
Ethereum continues to be the largest hub for meme coins, hosting popular coins like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. However, there are also some meme coins on non-Ethereum chains. One token, SPX6900 (SPX), has been a huge success, growing by 9,362% since the beginning of the year. The altcoin has attracted the attention of meme coin enthusiasts, making it one of the top 15 meme coins worldwide. SPX is trading at $0.80 at the time of writing, but has been stuck below the $0.91 level for the past two months.
Breaking above $0.91 is critical for SPX to reach its all-time high of $1.19, but the critical support level at $0.56 is important for the altcoin to continue its rise. Losing this level could lead to further selling among investors.
Base-Chain Based Meme Coins
Base-Chain-based meme coins haven’t seen as much growth as Ethereum and Solana-based alternatives, but one token that has caught our attention is Brett (BRETT), which is up 12,800% over the past 12 months. Currently trading at $0.125, BRETT is well below its $0.236 ATH, and needs broader market rally to re-emerge.
The critical support level for Brett is around $0.100, but a drop below that level is possible in the event of heavy selling, which could undermine investors’ confidence.
Other Meme Coins
Pepe (PEPE) – The Ethereum-based meme coin is up 1,140% since the beginning of the year.
Fartcoin (FARTCOIN) – The Solana-based meme coin has entered the $1 billion market cap club.
Bonk (BONK) – Solana-based meme coin, still among the top 5 meme coins.
Turbo (TURBO) – Ethereum-based meme coin, up 2,800% YTD.
Considering Ethereum’s dominance and Solana’s cheap ecosystem, it may be difficult for Base Chain to dominate the meme coin space. However, 2025 could be an exciting year for meme coin development.
