Bitcoin Emission Chart and the End of Emission in 2140
With the Bitcoin emission chart, the last part of its supply will not be unlocked until 2140, making this the last phase of Bitcoin's inflationary period. Now the question arises: will the supply cap be lifted, and if so, what will it mean for the future of Bitcoin?
The Bitcoin supply model is designed to be deflationary, with a total supply capped at 21 million coins. The rate of emission, or the number of new Bitcoins mined, drops by 50% approximately every four years in an event known as 'halving'.
After the 2024 halving, miners will receive a reward of 3.25 BTC per block. This will continue until 2140, when the reward will become so small that it will fall below one satoshi, the smallest unit of Bitcoin. At that point, the emission of new Bitcoins will effectively cease.
