A hacker compromised 15 accounts on platform X and earned $500,000 by promoting fake memecoins. The blockchain investigator ZachXBT uncovered the fraudster.
The criminal used phishing messages mimicking copyright violation notifications to deceive users and redirect them to fake websites. This scheme allowed the perpetrator to gain access to passwords and two-factor authentication (2FA) of the victims. Thus, he posted fraudulent ads about memecoins on the hacked accounts.
All attacks are linked to six addresses through which transactions were conducted. The hacker attempted to conceal the origin of the funds by using bridges between the Solana and Ethereum networks.
Among the affected accounts were popular bloggers in the crypto community with an audience of over 200,000 subscribers.
