In 2018, the NBU conducted a pilot project, issuing 5,443 e-hryvnias to test transfers between e-wallets and other operations. The next stage of the pilot project is planned for 2025, which involves testing the e-hryvnia in an open environment with the participation of real users and payment service providers. The technological basis of the e-hryvnia will be distributed ledger technology (DLT).

Based on this experience, the NBU plans to expand the testing of the e-hryvnia in 2025, involving real users in the project and ensuring integration with the country's payment infrastructure. It is planned to implement several use cases: from programmable social payments to transactions with virtual assets and international transfers.
