On December 23, Binance announced the launch of the 63rd Launchpool project Bio Protocol (BIO).

What is Bio Protocol?

BIO Protocol is a decentralized science (DeSci) curation and liquidity protocol, initially invested by Binance Labs, aimed at supporting scientific research projects and providing resources to promote research innovation.

You can think of it as the 'Y Combinator of on-chain science'.

BIO Protocol includes core components such as BioDAO, curation systems, IP commercialization and liquidity, incentive mechanisms, etc., and has built a diverse, highly engaged community through multiple rounds of auctions and airdrop programs, laying the foundation for a decentralized biomedical research network.

Among them, the most important is BioDAO, which raises funds through token sales and uses its funds to support and develop biotechnology projects related to its mission, creating shared intellectual property ownership among its members.

According to official information, there are currently 7 sub-DAOs successfully launched, 3 sub-DAOs are still in progress, with a total financing of $23.5 million and $7.2 million in deployed research funds.

The 7 sub-DAOs that have been launched:

- $VITA (VitaDAO): A group focused on funding early longevity research, which has received investment from Pfizer. During Devcon, VitaDAO also showcased its first longevity product VD001, a high-dose spermidine supplement approved by the Thai Food and Drug Administration.

Notably, BIO Protocol co-founder Paul Kohlhaas is also the initiator of VitaDAO and the author of the VitaDAO white paper.

- $ATH (AthenaDAO): Focused on research and drug discovery in female reproductive health.

- $GROW (ValleyDAO): A decentralized community governance platform focused on anti-aging drugs and longevity projects.

-$PSY (PsyDAO): Focused on psychedelic science research, the first batch of PSY token sales is expected to be completed in mid-November 2024, raising $2 million.

—HAIR (HairDAO): Aims to address hair loss issues and has launched Follicool shampoo products free of harmful parabens and sulfates. For every bottle of FolliCool purchased ($49.95), consumers will receive 1 million POO tokens.

-CRYO (CryoDAO): Committed to advancing cryopreservation research.

-$NEURON (CerebrumDAO): Promotes brain health, raising over $1.5 million.

pump.science: A DeSci funding platform sponsored by the Solana Foundation.

In September this year, the Solana Foundation provided a grant to Molecule, a company under BIO Protocol co-founder, to build the Solana-based DeSci funding platform pump.science, built on top of Pump.fun.

Let me rephrase this in clearer English:

Currently, two experimental studies are being conducted on the pump.science platform, namely:

  1. Rifampicin RIF (Rifampicin, abbreviated as RIF)

  2. Urolithin A (Urolithin A, abbreviated as URO)

These two experiments are currently in the fruit fly testing stage.

About these two compounds:

  • RIF is an important antibiotic primarily used to treat bacterial infections such as tuberculosis, mycobacterial complex, leprosy, and legionnaires' disease. Research has found that it can activate the body's natural defense mechanisms in small organisms like Caenorhabditis elegans, helping to resist stress and damage.

URO is a compound produced by the human body after digesting foods containing tannins, such as pomegranates. Its main function is to promote mitochondrial autophagy, which clears aging and dysfunctional mitochondria from the body, allowing space for new, healthy mitochondria to grow. Human studies have shown that this substance is promising for improving muscle health and enhancing energy levels.

Other important assets in Desci:

- $RSC (ResearchHub): Founded by Coinbase's founder, it rewards users for publishing high-quality content on the platform.

-$DRUGS, the ai16z of the desci field, managing a batch of Desci token positions, a crypto pharmaceutical fund.
