Agglayer, a promising modular blockchain ecosystem, has just reached an important milestone in its testing process. In the newly launched testnet version v0.2, Agglayer successfully deployed pessimistic proofs, opening up the possibility of connecting heterogeneous blockchains. This is a significant advancement before the mainnet is officially launched in early 2025.

Agglayer, a decentralized cross-network connectivity protocol developed by the Polygon (POL) ecosystem, will launch on the mainnet in early 2025. This information was officially announced by Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon.

On December 20, 2024, the blockchain activated testnet v0.2. This testing phase will focus on deploying pessimistic proofs, a core factor in connecting EVM chains through Agglayer, regardless of the stack technology each chain uses.

The Polygon team emphasizes that testing pessimistic proofs is crucial to ensure the secure and tamper-proof transfer of value between components in the Agglayer ecosystem. Pessimistic proofs help protect data integrity by tracking balances across chains, allowing chains to transact and transmit information securely.

The shift to Agglayer is an important development in Polygon's strategy for 2024. This meta-blockchain will change the way blockchains interact within the EVM and other blockchain ecosystems.

With the establishment of a new tokenomics foundation, POL, the core asset of the Agglayer ecosystem, will replace MATIC as the gas currency on the Polygon platform. Additionally, the main use cases of Agglayer have been announced, including the fields of DeFi, Gaming, RWA, and AI+DePIN.

In a new development, Agglayer developers have also revealed the potential for collaboration with Solana (SOL), the main competitor of Polygon, in Agglayer's mechanism. On December 19, Agglayer shared a summary of the main use cases they are targeting. Thanks to unique cross-chain connectivity opportunities, Agglayer will become the top choice for DeFi projects, helping to solve the issue of liquidity fragmentation. At the same time, Agglayer will also build a collection of cost-effective blockchains focused on the gaming sector, such as ImmutableX and Ronin Network, aiming to create a new generation of GameFi.

For the real-world asset (RWA) segment, Agglayer will open up opportunities for fragmented asset ownership across multiple blockchains simultaneously. Ultimately, this new ecosystem will drive the robust development of AI networks and DePIN, thanks to its ability to process large data cross-chain dApps, thereby opening up a promising future for decentralized applications.
