Chainalysis: North Korean hackers stole $1.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency in 47 attacks in 2024
According to the Chainalysis report, North Korean hackers stole $1.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency through 47 attack incidents in 2024, accounting for 61% of the global total, which is double the $660 million in 2023.
The report points out that North Korea's frequency and profitability in large-scale attacks have increased significantly, while global hacking activity has declined in the second half of 2024. Meanwhile, several incidents in December show that holidays remain a high-risk period. The total amount of cryptocurrency stolen throughout the year is around $2.2 billion, an increase of 21% year-on-year, but far lower than the approximately $3.7 billion in 2022. 2022 remains the year with the highest amount of cryptocurrency stolen by hackers.
