Disabling $DOGE

Co-founder of the Bitcoin sidechain Sequentia Andreas Kohl was able to stop 69% of the Dogecoin network nodes by taking advantage of a previously discovered vulnerability.

He said that he used a flaw in the system previously discovered by researcher Tobias Rook. The vulnerability was named DogeReaper. It allows you to remotely disable any node if you have its ID in the network.

Thus, Kohl crashed about 69% of Dogecoin validators. After his intervention, the number of active nodes decreased from 647 to 258. Subsequently, the blockchain was fully restored.

This error was extremely dangerous, threatening the stability of the entire network. Therefore, the researchers passed on detailed data about the exploit to miners and exchanges, and released patches for most systems.
