PANews, December 19 - According to Bloomberg, Elon Musk is recruiting a team for a new initiative called the 'Department of Government Efficiency' (DOGE), aimed at reducing the size and spending of the U.S. federal government. This plan is supported by incoming President Trump and incoming Vice President Vivek Ramaswamy, and is currently operating through SpaceX's office in Washington. DOGE has not yet become a formally approved government agency by Congress and may register in the future as a 501(c)(3) organization or become a federal advisory committee through an executive order from Trump. The team is led by key personnel including Steve Davis, president of Musk's tunneling company Boring Co., and former Trump administration technology official Michael Kratsios, and has hired about 10 people, targeting talent in technology fields such as artificial intelligence.

The DOGE plan aims to cut the federal budget by up to $2 trillion (uncertain whether annually or over ten years), which may involve deep cuts to popular programs such as Social Security and Medicare. Meanwhile, the Republican Party plans to establish a 'Government Efficiency Delivery Task Force' in collaboration with DOGE. Musk is a significant supporter of Trump’s campaign and has donated over $238 million to help Trump win. DOGE emphasizes reducing wasteful spending and seeks to streamline government operations, viewed as an important step in Musk's collaboration with conservatives.
