Odaily Planet Daily News Coinbase disclosed in a transparency report that over the past year, it received 10,707 requests from law enforcement and government agencies worldwide, a decrease of 18% compared to the previous reporting period. Despite the decline this year, the number of requests submitted by the United States has been the highest for the third consecutive year. Outside of the U.S., Coinbase saw a significant reduction in law enforcement requests from major markets. Requests from Germany, the UK, and Spain dropped by 33%, 45%, and 35%, respectively. In contrast, requests from Singapore increased by 221%, jumping from 34 in 2023 to 109 this year. This indicates that as the region becomes a cryptocurrency hub, its regulatory activities are becoming increasingly active. Coinbase stated that 81% of requests came from six major jurisdictions: the U.S., the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Australia. The vast majority of requests involve criminal law enforcement matters, such as investigations into illegal financial activities, fraud, or other criminal issues. Furthermore, the company noted that its review process is very strict to ensure compliance while not compromising customer rights. Each request is reviewed by a dedicated team of lawyers, analysts, and privacy experts. Regarding the information shared with authorities, while Coinbase does provide certain customer details (such as name, IP address, and payment information) based on valid requests, it stated that no government has direct access to its systems.
