Odaily Planet Daily News - The People's Court of Wenchang City, Hainan Province, China recently concluded a case involving the trading of personal information using cryptocurrency. Court investigations revealed that in 2021, defendant Han purchased a total of 82,244,655 pieces of personal information from various citizens across the country for 500 yuan on QQ, including 7,271 photos of identity card holders, 30,689,810 vehicle owner information, 1,069,935 bank citizen information, 33,862 express delivery transaction information, and 50,443,777 pieces of information including identity cards, names, and phone numbers, which were stored in Han's personal Baidu cloud drive for sale. In March 2023, Han sold the information through platforms such as QQ, WeChat, and Telegram, and collaborated with courier Wu to obtain express delivery transaction information, pricing each piece at 1.5 yuan in USDT, making a profit of 770 yuan through a certain platform, with defendant Wu receiving 380 yuan, while two other purchasers had not yet made payment. The court ultimately sentenced Han to one year and eight months in prison for infringing on citizens' personal information and imposed a fine of 3,000 yuan, while co-defendant Wu was sentenced to eight months in prison with a one-year and four-month probation and a fine of 2,000 yuan.
