Domestic media reported that artist Guo Yanjun stated in an interview today that he had also encountered fraud 5 or 6 years ago, and over these 5 or 6 years, (the criminal law) has not been strengthened, allowing victims to fall one by one. Upon reviewing the judgment, it was shocking to find Guo Yanjun's name appearing in a fraud case involving Ethereum mining machines, with a compensation amount of NT$5.12 million, which is already the down payment for an apartment in the eastern district of Taipei.
Don’t believe in high annualized returns with principal protection; they are mostly scams that use later investments to cover earlier ones.
"We can't blame the victims, as they (fraud groups) have too many perfect scripts. Many people say they act better than those award-winning actors and actresses." Guo Yanjun stated during the interview. He pointed out that this is a social problem, shaking the foundation of the country. He has seen many retired elderly people defrauded of their life savings, and he hopes that legislators can seriously address this issue, as there are far too many families destroyed; what we see now is just the tip of the iceberg, with many more still hidden.
Recently, he also posted on Facebook, stating that he once naively trusted a friend's annualized profit guarantee of 18%, investing an amount sufficient to pay the down payment for an apartment in the eastern district of Taipei. Initially, he did receive some money, but after a while, there were many reasons for delays, and three months later, the top people were arrested. Subsequent news reported that the fraud amount reached billions of NT dollars, and some investors even ended up making statements due to this. He heard from friends that the instigator ultimately received less than ten years in prison, and the money defrauded had already been transferred abroad.
Artists have also been defrauded, with the Ethereum mining machine scam taking away billions of NT dollars.
By reviewing the court ruling, it was revealed that Guo Yanjun was defrauded by a company named 'Fani Innovative Technology Co., Ltd.' in an Ethereum mining machine fraud case. The ruling pointed out that Fani Innovative used fraudulent means violating the Banking Act to induce victims to purchase Ethereum mining machines from the company, while they were supposed to set up the machines and conduct Ethereum mining operations according to the contract. However, the company did not actually set up the machines but instead fabricated false profits using the method of later investments to cover earlier ones.
Guo Yanjun invested about NT$5.5 million in the case, recouping around NT$380,000, and losing about NT$5.12 million. This is a classic case of 'you want his profit, he wants your principal.' In the end, he also stated that many fraud groups transfer the proceeds abroad before being caught. After the case is closed, they can continue using the money overseas. He said, 'The suspect exchanges a few years of public service for billions; it's really unfair,' and called for legislators to amend laws to increase penalties for fraud.
