After taking nearly 2 billion VND of union funds to play bitcoin, the former Chairman of the Union of Inahvina Company Limited quietly resigned to avoid responsibility.
On November 12, Ho Chi Minh City People's Court sentenced defendant Pham Dinh Tuong (40 years old, from Quang Ngai) to 20 years in prison for the crime of "Embezzlement of property".
According to the accusation, in 2017, Tuong was elected as Chairman of the Trade Union, accountant and treasurer of the trade union of Inahvina Company Limited.
Taking advantage of his position and authority, Tuong arbitrarily transferred money from the Union's account to his own accounts opened at many banks or withdrew cash from the fund, appropriating nearly 2 billion VND for personal use.
By May 2022, when Tuong voluntarily quit his job, Ms. Dang Thi Anh Thi (Vice President of the Union) discovered that the amount of money in the Union account was only more than 3 million VND, there was no more cash.
Ms. Thi contacted the superior Union and learned that Tuong had not paid the fee from January 2020 to June 2021, amounting to more than 694 million VND; and had not paid the union fee from July 2019 to April 2022, amounting to more than 295 million VND.
Then, Ms. Thi, on behalf of the Inahvina Company Limited Union, filed a complaint against Tuong's behavior with the police.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the actions as charged in the indictment. Regarding the reason for taking the union fund, Tuong said that he lost money playing bitcoin so he took the risk.
Considering that the defendant's actions are dangerous to society and affect the rights and interests of employees of Inahvina Company Limited, the panel of judges sentenced the defendant to the above sentence.
