What is (MapleStory N)?
The blockchain game (MapleStory N), developed by South Korean gaming giant Nexon, recently held a press conference in Taiwan. MapleStory Universe's Business Director Dominic Jang took this opportunity to introduce to Taiwanese media and players how this classic IP differs after entering the blockchain world compared to the original version of (MapleStory).
(MapleStory N) is one of the core games of the MapleStory Universe ecosystem, which consists of multiple applications, including wallets, trading platforms, and the game itself.

(MapleStory N) is established on the Arbitrum blockchain and is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). It inherits the classic style of (MapleStory) but introduces blockchain elements in its economic system and player experience. The game allows players to hold in-game items and characters through NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) or FTs (Fungible Tokens), enabling buying and trading of these digital assets.
These transactions are not limited to servers and can be conducted in trading markets outside the game. There is no 'cash shop' in (MapleStory N), as the official team hopes to maintain a free economy between players. Additionally, items in the game differ from the original (MapleStory) as they have quantity limits, helping to preserve value and resist inflation.
As for the 'token economy' that many players are concerned about, (MapleStory N) currently has two types of coins, including the in-game $NESO (similar to the original MapleStory's Mesos) and the utility token $NXPC. In the future, the official team will also release a detailed white paper and announce the method to exchange $NESO for $NXPC.
The classic MapleStory IP can also be seen in (MapleStory N).
What can we expect from (MapleStory N)?
Dominic Jang announced that (MapleStory N) is expected to go live in the first half of 2025, along with the clothing system and trading market.
Regarding the game's target users, he categorized them into three types: first, the loyal players who resonate with and have nostalgic feelings towards (MapleStory), especially long-term players who are very familiar with the game's operations and content, and may be interested in the new version and re-engage.
Another group includes content creators and developers who will enter the game and participate in the expansion of the ecosystem. For example, developers can introduce preset shoe item NFTs from the game into other 'play-to-earn' games (like STEPN), allowing players who also have these item NFTs to gain more points, etc.
Finally, there are players who have never played (MapleStory), especially Web3 users, who are primarily attracted by blockchain technology.
Although the current economic model in the game is not clearly defined, Dominic Jang stated that the game hopes to reward players who contribute to the game community. These contributions can include creating content, promoting community development, etc., and different honors will be awarded based on the level of contribution.
'The development team values every feedback, question, and interaction from players very much,' said Dominic Jang. He added that in the future, (MapleStory N) does not rule out launching more interactive experiences, allowing players to play a more significant role in some key game decisions. Furthermore, regarding cooperation with other well-known Web3 IPs, (MapleStory N) remains open to possibilities. However, the team's current focus is still on successfully launching and stabilizing the game system.
