Odaily Planet Daily reported that Ethiopia's Bitcoin mining industry has rapidly emerged, currently accounting for 2.5% of the global hash rate. According to the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), local operations have consumed 600 megawatts of electricity. By the end of the year, this figure could rise to 1 gigawatt, accounting for 7% of the global Bitcoin network hash rate. Ethiopia is attracting crypto mining companies with its abundant hydroelectric power and surplus renewable energy, with companies like BitFuFu and BIT Mining investing heavily in the region. The local government is actively working to position the country as a Bitcoin mining hub, and the state-owned EEP has generated over $55 million in revenue in the past 10 months through agreements with 25 Bitcoin mining companies.
