Elected President Donald Trump has chosen cryptocurrency supporter Paul Atkins to serve as the new chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Atkins previously served as a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission during President George W. Bush's administration and is widely respected in conservative legal circles and among Republican establishment figures. Since leaving the commission, he has been outspoken in his support for the cryptocurrency industry and has served as co-chairman of the industry organization Digital Chamber of Commerce's Token Alliance since 2017.
