China has strongly defended the BRICS coalition against the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff threats, emphasizing its principles of openness and inclusiveness. Responding diplomatically, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated that BRICS does not target third parties and aims to foster global economic stability and shared prosperity. Lin noted that emerging markets, including BRICS nations, play a vital role in revitalizing the global economy, which ultimately benefits the U.S. as well. He cautioned that imposing a 100 percent tariff could backfire, harming U.S. businesses and consumers by raising costs. Beijing further dismissed claims that BRICS initiatives aim to undermine the dollar, advocating instead for mutual growth and international financial fairness. China reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with BRICS partners to drive sustainable development worldwide, urging the US to reconsider policies that could damage its own economic interests.
