Avail 101: Enabling blockchain to drive future scalability

As the blockchain space evolves, Rollup technology has ushered in a new era of scalability by moving execution off-chain. However, a pressing challenge remains: Data Availability (DA). Many Rollups rely on Ethereum for their DA needs, which is not a cost-effective solution. And, while competing solutions exist, they often introduce unnecessary layers of trust and inefficiencies.

This is where Avail comes in. Designed for this task, Avail provides a decentralized, scalable, and efficient DA platform. This isn’t just about solving today’s problems, it’s about building a super-scalable base layer for future rollup-based applications.

Avail's focus on data availability and consensus has laid a solid platform for a variety of users. Whether you want to expand the L3 ecosystem or optimize L2 rollup, whether you are considering building a validium, optimium or sovereign rollup, Avail can meet your needs.

Now we need validators to make this a reality. We are looking for people who want to try out some cool stuff, help support the modular blockchain future, and get rewarded in the process.

Introducing Clash of Nodes

Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of Clash of Nodes! This is an incentivized testnet where validators, light client operators, and others can help validate our network, earn points, and compete for fun and potential rewards.

We’re gearing up to go to mainnet in the coming months, so Clash of Nodes is your chance to experience how Avail will work once it launches.

How does it work?

Clash of Nodes is a fight to the death (not really) where validators, light client operators, and other participants complete challenges on Avail for a chance to win rewards:

  • A validator that consistently and correctly validates the chain throughout testing.

  • Participate in the challenge to simulate more and more rollups (or larger rollups) running full nodes and light clients on Avail.

  • Participate in simulating various adverse events or extreme situations that may occur in the real world, such as network attacks, large-scale transaction congestion, data loss, or other situations that may threaten network stability and security

The first challenges are coming

Here are some of the first challenges coming at launch and shortly thereafter:

  1. Gladiator's guide: Get as many blocks as possible.

  2. Brave Warrior: Strictly abide by the rules of the agreement.

  3. Challenge Most Transfers: Test as many transfers as possible.

  4. Discover yourself: Add and verify your identity.

  5. Staking: Make sure the total stake amount is as high as possible.

  6. Magic Nomination Pool: Create the highest total nomination pool during the entire testnet.

For light client operators, your challenges will come in the coming weeks, but you can warm up now by running a light client in seconds. https://docs.availproject.org/operate/node/light-client/?ref=blog.availproject.org

For the rest of the users, challenges like Balance Transfer and Identity Setup are open to anyone to join and complete!

Read full details on the Clash of Nodes challenge page. https://docs.availproject.org/clash-of-nodes/challenges/?ref=blog.availproject.org

You'll earn points by completing weekly challenges, and your scores will be displayed on a leaderboard.

Validators and light clients — we need you!

We need validators and light client operators to help build the network!

Validators - Guardians of Avail

We wanted to take a moment to explain what validators are at Avail. You play a vital role in driving the blockchain ecosystem forward, and through the Avail network, you will help us scale the Data Availability (DA) blockspace around the world.

100 of you have been helping us test the Kate testnet for months, and you will have priority to be one of the 300 in this round. In the long run, our goal is 1000! So for those who participated in this testnet, we welcome you in advance!

Light Client Operators - Strengthening the Network

Light client operators play a special role in Avail. In a world where all Avail validators are offline, Avail is the only data availability network where light clients can keep running. Light clients have the power of data availability sampling.

Setting up and operating a light client is very simple. If you have ever formatted your laptop, becoming a light client operator is just as easy. Join the light client operation and become part of this scalability legend.

L2 Providers and Application Rollup Developers

Whether you are building an L3 ecosystem or optimizing our L2s, now is the perfect opportunity to test the Avail base layer and get ready for mainnet, where you can increase scalability on your existing chain. Read the full guide to selecting the right data availability layer. https://blog.availproject.org/a-guide-to-selecting-the-right-data-availability-layer/

For others who want to participate

We need users and developers to test our network from all angles. Join us and try out our system, access faucets, try to "break the network", send large amounts of data, and more. Check out all the challenges you can try even if you are not a validator or light client operator.
