$THE $UNI $AVAX According to a series of tweets from ZachXBT, social media account hacks increased in August. Hackers hacked into the accounts of celebrities or large organizations, promoting fake tokens on them, while the proceeds were transferred to anonymous wallets. Many incidents were interconnected: funds obtained from one fraudulent scheme were used to launch other fake meme coins, which were also promoted through hacked social media accounts.

Among the victims of the hackers was the international fast-food chain McDonald's — its Instagram account was compromised to promote the GRIMACE token. The scammers made $690,000 from this scheme. Soon after this incident, criminals hacked the account of American actor Dean Norris on platform X, using it to promote the meme token SCHRADER. The token was created in honor of the character — agent Hank Schrader, whom Norris played in the series 'Breaking Bad.'

The account of American singer Usher was also hacked to advertise fake tokens USHER. From the scam involving this meme coin, the fraudsters obtained about 4,868 SOL, which were then transferred to an address linked to subsequent attacks on the accounts of Enoshima Aquarium and Truth Terminal founder Andy Ayrey. The scammers promoted six meme tokens through his compromised account over several days, including RNA, TRUTH, INFINITY, and WOAH. They earned over $2.1 million from this.

Another incident occurred in early November when hackers compromised the account of rapper Wiz Khalifa on social media X to promote the meme coins WIZ and WIZZLE. A blockchain detective found that the same hackers were behind a fraudulent scheme in the name of Andy Ayrey.

Previously, ZachXBT warned that criminals have increasingly begun to stalk and attack their victims in person to steal their crypto assets.
