Tether stops supporting the stablecoin EURT, pegged to the euro ❗️
Tether, the issuer of USDT, the largest stablecoin in the world by market capitalization, is discontinuing support for EURT, pegged to the euro, and is asking users to redeem their assets within a year.
In its statement, Tether urged clients holding EURT across all supported blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, and Tron, to redeem their assets by November 27, 2025. New requests for the issuance of the stablecoin are no longer being accepted. Interestingly, the last request for issuance was processed in 2022. Tether's decision to discontinue the issuance of EURT aligns with the new requirements of the European legislation on crypto-asset markets (MiCA), which is expected to come into full effect by the end of 2024.
It is known that Tether will continue to support new stablecoin projects that comply with MiCA requirements, including the stablecoins EURQ and USDQ from the Dutch fintech company Quantoz Payments.
