MetaMask, a popular cryptocurrency wallet, recently announced that its US users can now purchase crypto directly through the Venmo payment app. This partnership is made possible by crypto-focused fintech company Moonpay. Venmo, a subsidiary of PayPal, started offering crypto transfers to its customers in April 2023 and has supported buying, holding, and selling cryptocurrencies since 2021.
While MetaMask’s fiat-to-crypto option is available in around 200 countries, the collaboration with Venmo is currently exclusive to US users. The company has been making significant efforts to improve its payment options, having already launched a fiat-to-crypto feature in April 2023. Additional support for payment options is provided through Apple Pay, debit and credit cards, PayPal, wire transfer, and ACH bank transactions.
Other MetaMask partners include Transak, Stripe, Sardine, and Banxa, among others. In August, MetaMask launched the MetaMask Card in partnership with Mastercard and crypto service provider Crypto Life. The card, currently in pilot phase and only available in Europe and the UK, is a debit card that enables users to spend balances in USD Coin (USDC), Tether USD (USDT), and Wrapped Ethereum (WETH) at any vendor accepting Mastercard.
The card is also supported by Apple Pay and Google Pay.
