The founder of Ethereum$ETH Vitalik Buterin expressed concern about the development of OpenAI in an interview with 'Qianwang' from Tencent News. He criticized the platform for straying from its open-source roots, mockingly calling it 'CloseAI'. Buterin highlighted two significant issues: OpenAI's compromise between openness and safety and its subsequent prioritization of profit over safety.
Reflecting on OpenAI's trajectory, Buterin noted how CEO Sam Altman gained control after a power struggle with the company's board of directors. The transition of OpenAI from a non-profit to a for-profit organization also led to the board being reduced to an advisory role. This alarming change echoed the piercing words of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin:
'You cannot trade freedom for safety. If you do, you will find that you lose both safety and freedom'.
