The SEC has released its 2024 enforcement action report.

The report says that a total of 583 cases were filed, up 14% from 2023, with fines and settlements reaching a record $8.2 billion.

The focus is on “high-risk” areas such as cryptocurrencies and private equity funds.

SEC Chairman Gary Gensler praised the role of the Enforcement Division, saying, “The Enforcement Division is a tough cop on the beat, following the facts and the law wherever they lead to hold criminals accountable. As this year’s results demonstrate, the Division helps maintain the integrity of our capital markets for the benefit of investors and issuers alike.”
