As President-elect Donald Trump assembles his transition team, much attention is swirling around the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, or D.O.G.E. Pro-freedom advocate and former congressman Ron Paul recently shared that Elon Musk had approached him for help with D.O.G.E. Paul, a longtime liberty supporter, emphasized that he would “love to help bring sanity back.”

Can Ron Paul ‘Bring Sanity Back’ to Washington?

Excitement is brewing around D.O.G.E, the federal efficiency program spearheaded by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. With bold objectives, D.O.G.E aims to overhaul the federal government by simplifying operations, shrinking the workforce, advancing regulatory reform, and boosting transparency—all with the end goal of cutting costs across the U.S. government.

Possibly joining this powerhouse duo, former Congressman Ron Paul has been invited to contribute. Supporters of free markets and personal liberty are optimistic that Ron Paul might be the missing piece to bring this ambitious vision to life. In a recent editorial, David Gornoski of Antiwar.com cleverly argued that “for DOGE to hunt waste, it needs Ron Paul to sic it.”

“Ron Paul brings to the table a gold standard of commitment to truth and fiscal conservatism,” Gornoski wrote. “His lifelong advocacy for reducing government, based on constitutional and natural law principles, makes him uniquely qualified. No one has more credibility on trying to help America avoid financial ruin than Ron Paul, whose warnings and efforts date back to the 1970s.”

On Nov. 22, Paul shared on X that Musk had reached out for his input on D.O.G.E. “Elon Musk asked me to advise the new Dept. of Government Efficiency. I’d love to help bring sanity back!” he wrote. The well-known X account Clandestine chimed in with a reply: “Glad to have you aboard, Sir. It’s been a long time coming,” Clandestine remarked. Another person replied:

Can we fire those 87,000 armed IRS agents now?

In addition to Paul, his son Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) also explained he is “all in” on helping D.O.G.E cut back government spending. “I’m all in and will do anything I can to help them,” Paul told Fox News. “It’s a monster, it’s a leviathan, but can you cut? Sure, you can cut. You can cut through attrition, you can cut through letting people go. There are some departments that would be gone and you would not know.”

Despite the ambitious vision outlined for the Department of Government Efficiency, the feasibility of such sweeping reforms remains a daunting challenge. With the federal bureaucracy described as a ‘leviathan’ by its own prospective reformers, skeptics might question whether the initiative, even under such high-profile leadership, can genuinely tame such a vast administrative apparatus. The promise of a streamlined government may face significant hurdles in practice.
