While President-elect Donald Trump is assembling his transition team, much attention is focused on the newly formed Government Efficiency Department, or DOGE. Libertarian supporter and former Congressman Ron Paul recently shared that Elon Musk approached him for help on DOGE. Paul, a long-time libertarian supporter, emphasized that he would "very much like to help bring sanity back."
Can Ron Paul 'bring sanity' to Washington?
Excitement is building around DOGE, the federal efficiency initiative led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. With bold goals, DOGE aims to reform the federal government by streamlining operations, cutting the workforce, promoting regulatory reform, and enhancing transparency—all aimed at the ultimate goal of reducing costs across the entire U.S. government.
To join this power duo, former Congressman Ron Paul has been invited to contribute. Free market and individual liberty supporters are optimistic that Ron Paul could be the missing piece to realize this ambitious vision. In a recent op-ed, David Gornoski of Antiwar.com cleverly argued that "for DOGE to hunt down waste, it needs Ron Paul to activate it."
“Ron Paul brings a gold standard of commitment to truth and financial conservatism,” Gornoski wrote. “His lifelong support for cutting government, based on constitutional principles and natural law, uniquely qualifies him. No one has more credibility in trying to help America avoid financial collapse than Ron Paul, who has been issuing warnings and efforts since the 1970s.”
On November 22, Paul went to X and explained that Musk had asked him for help on DOGE. "Elon Musk asked me to advise the new Government Efficiency Department. I would love to help bring back sanity!" The popular X account Clandestine responded to Paul's post. "Glad to have you on board, sir. It's been a long time since we could do this," Clandestine said.

Can we fire 87,000 armed IRS employees right now?
In addition to Paul, his son Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) also explained that he "fully supports" helping DOGE cut government spending. "I fully support and will do whatever I can to help them," Paul told Fox News. "It's a monster, a giant monster, but can you cut it? Sure, you can cut it. You can cut through attrition, you can cut through layoffs. There are some departments that will disappear and you won't even know it."
Despite the ambitious vision outlined for the Government Efficiency Department, the feasibility of such comprehensive reforms remains a daunting challenge. With the federal bureaucracy described by future reformers themselves as a 'monster', skeptics may question whether this initiative, even under such high-level leadership, can truly tame such a vast administrative machinery. The promise of a streamlined government may face significant barriers in reality.
