SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizárraga is resigning.
“As we reflect on the challenges ahead, we have decided that it is in the best interest of our family to close this chapter of my 34-year journey of public service,” Lizárraga said in a statement. “Until my departure in January, I will remain fully engaged in the ongoing work and activities of the Commission.” (Bloomberg is the source.)
Lizárraga’s announcement came a day after SEC Chairman Gary Gensler said he planned to step down on Jan. 20. The two departures will leave Caroline Crenshaw as the only Democrat on the five-member commission, serving alongside Republicans Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda.
