Dogecoin enthusiasts have recently reignited discussions about the future of the meme coin after an observation was shared on social media platform X. KrissPax, a Dogecoin enthusiast, highlighted an interesting detail showing that DOGE is the only cryptocurrency currently embedded in the payment code for Tesla's Cybertruck and Model 3. Interestingly, this aligns with the current bullish sentiment surrounding DOGE and rumors about Tesla's official plans to accept DOGE as a payment method.

Dogecoin code in Tesla's payments: A long-standing detail revisited

The inclusion of Dogecoin in Tesla's payment infrastructure has been known for a long time, but its renewed focus has drawn attention. Notably, this comes during a significant price correction for this meme cryptocurrency.

Back in October 2023, reports emerged regarding the mention of DOGE in the source code of Tesla's Cybertruck payment page. Notably, cryptocurrency influencer MartyParty identified over 50 references to Dogecoin in the code.

However, this renewed interest stems from a recent post by Dogecoin enthusiast KrissPax on social media platform X. He emphasized the presence of DOGE code in Tesla's payment system, stating that:

“Just remember that there is Dogecoin in the payment code for Cybertruck and Tesla Model 3. Not any other cryptocurrency – just Dogecoin. Just wait for Tesla to enable this option!”

Although Tesla's Cybertruck has been unveiled, the DOGE payment feature has yet to be activated this year. However, its presence in the code suggests that Tesla is still keeping the door open for DOGE transactions in the future.

What does this mean for DOGE?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has long been a passionate supporter of Dogecoin, frequently mentioning its use for everyday transactions. His enthusiasm for DOGE has been evident through numerous public endorsements, including Tesla's decision in January 2022 to start accepting DOGE as a payment method for certain items. This effort has created some utility for DOGE, which is known for its meme status.

However, the eventual integration of DOGE as a payment method for Tesla vehicles would be the tipping point in creating utility for this meme coin from the electric vehicle manufacturer.

Such a major move would not only improve the adoption of Dogecoin but also open up another channel for cash flow, which would benefit its price growth. Furthermore, other companies may follow in Tesla's footsteps and make DOGE a payment method.

Interestingly, such a move is not Tesla's first time accepting cryptocurrency payments for its vehicles. Back in 2021, Tesla began allowing customers to use Bitcoin as a form of payment.

However, this initiative did not last long, as Tesla stopped accepting Bitcoin as payment just a few months later due to environmental concerns regarding the increasing energy consumption of Bitcoin mining and transactions.

At the time of writing, Dogecoin is trading at $0.3842, down 0.92% and 1.69% over the past 24 hours and seven days, respectively.
