Secret countries hoarding Bitcoin

Bhutan is one of the secret countries hoarding Bitcoin with significant mining activity. This country has officially been mining Bitcoin since 2019, when the price of this digital currency was only around 5,000 USD. The Bhutanese government has leveraged its abundant hydroelectric power, which makes up 30% of their GDP, to supply the Bitcoin mining system, enabling the country to hold approximately 13,011 Bitcoin, worth around 1.1 billion USD, much higher than other countries like El Salvador.

Mining activities in Bhutan are primarily coordinated by the state investment fund Druk Holdings, with support from major mining companies like Bitdeer. Although not much information is publicly disclosed about the scale and profitability of the mining operations, Bhutan has proven its effective mining capability thanks to its cheap and abundant energy infrastructure.

In addition to Bhutan, several other countries are also accumulating Bitcoin, but through methods such as asset seizure from criminal cases, which is different from Bhutan's mining strategy.
