A few years ago, I met a friend who wouldn't stop talking about a new cryptocurrency that promised amazing returns: a guaranteed 15% monthly. The project was called CryptoWealth and was run by an "expert" with an impeccable resume. They promised extraordinary profits simply by investing and recruiting more people. It sounded too good to be true, but I, like many others, got carried away by the excitement.

At first, everything worked as promised. I deposited $2,000, and in the first month, I received $300 as profit. I was euphoric and convinced my friends and family to invest as well. Together, we contributed more than $20,000.

The Collapse

After a few months of "gains", the platform stopped paying. Withdrawals were frozen, and the people behind CryptoWealth disappeared. Later, it was discovered that the project was a classic Ponzi scheme: initial returns were paid with the money from new investors, not from any genuine activity. When the base of new investors stopped growing, the system collapsed.

I lost my savings, but the worst part was the guilt of having dragged people who trusted me. It was a devastating experience that taught me valuable lessons.

Tips to Avoid Ponzi Schemes in Cryptocurrencies

1. Beware of guaranteed profits: In the world of investments, nothing is certain. If they promise you high returns with no risk, it is almost certainly a fraud.

2. Research thoroughly: Before investing, check who is behind the project. Look for independent information, don't just rely on what they say on their official page or social media.

3. Avoid aggressive referral schemes: If a project relies on you bringing in new participants to gain benefits, it's a red flag.

4. Value transparency: Legitimate projects often have open accounting, auditable technology, and a clear use for their token or cryptocurrency.

5. Trust your intuition: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
