According to TechFlow, on November 15, DLNews reported that the well-known satirical news website The Onion announced the acquisition of the bankrupt far-right media platform Infowars and will accept Bitcoin payments. The Onion CEO Ben Collins said that the new version of Infowars will be transformed into a self-satire platform, focusing on mocking the founder of the website, Alex Jones, and other related figures.

The acquisition is supported by the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting. Jones was previously ordered by the court to pay about $1.5 billion in damages for spreading conspiracy theories that the case was a "hoax" and subsequently filed for bankruptcy protection. Gun safety advocacy organization Everytown for Gun Safety will become the exclusive advertiser on the new platform.

The Onion has published its first satirical article about the acquisition, with fictional CEO Bryce P. Tetraeder saying they "bought this forgotten man's website for less than a trillion dollars." Collins said they plan to make it a "really stupid" website that will provide users with "constant humorous content."
