New research from Microsoft and IDC shows that 75% of businesses have adopted GenAI, according to Cryptopolitan.
According to a report titled “The Business Opportunity of AI” conducted by Microsoft in collaboration with IDC, more than 85% of the top 500 Fortune companies are using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools to shape their future.
It is estimated that for every $1 that organizations invest in GenAI, they receive an average of $3.70 in return, demonstrating the technology’s enormous potential to create sustainable value for businesses.
Notable points about GenAI in research.
Microsoft believes that most transformation initiatives aim to achieve one of four key business outcomes: improving the employee experience, reinventing customer interactions, reimagining business processes, and driving innovation.
Microsoft’s strategic partners, such as Adobe, will integrate Adobe Experience Cloud with Microsoft Copilot by March 2024, helping marketers optimize productivity and creativity. Amit Ahuja, senior vice president of digital experience at Adobe, said the increased demand for personalized content on social media platforms is driving the adoption of GenAI.
GenAI is not limited to marketing. McDonald’s China, for example, has partnered with Microsoft to set up an AI lab, using Azure AI to improve service quality and operational efficiency.
Similarly, Absa Group, one of Africa's largest financial institutions, adopted Microsoft Copilot in June 2024 to stay ahead of the GenAI trend in reshaping banking operations.
GenAI is also changing the way businesses operate. Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), which has been using Microsoft technology for 20 years, migrated its internal database to Microsoft’s Azure platform in September 2024 to save on operating costs. “When we develop on Azure, we expect to reduce our costs by 30% compared to operating locally,” said Stefano Buonaiuto, head of IT at SWISS.
In the field of product innovation, GenAI is shortening research and development time, accelerating the innovation process. For example, Suzuki Motor Corporation, one of the first organizations to use Azure OpenAI services since April 2023, said that Microsoft has provided similar functions to OpenAI's ChatGPT but ensures data security.
“With Azure, we don’t need to worry about data protection, and this opens up the opportunity for company-wide deployment,” said Daisuke Hata, Manager of the Data Analytics Promotion Group at Suzuki.
The emergence of GenAI not only brings economic efficiency but also creates incentives for innovation in product development and innovation processes, helping to shorten research and development time. This trend is expected to become increasingly important in the daily work of organizations, with human-AI collaboration driving productivity.
