There is a logic that if the United States abandons its support for NATO, then European countries will be caught in an arms race.
The question is, why haven't ASEAN countries fallen into an arms race? Is it because Europeans have violent genes? This is obviously unreasonable.
Maybe it is because of two reasons: 1/ Geographically, many Southeast Asian countries are island countries, making it difficult for them to attack each other; 2/ Southeast Asia plays a very important balancing role, such as curbing Vietnam's expansionist ambitions and balancing the military power of India and Pakistan.
Europe lacks the above two points: geographical distance and peace-loving superpowers. Instead, countries like Britain like to fan the flames.
So if NATO is dissolved, Europe may indeed fall into an arms race. The only way out is for Germany and France to unite, but the question is, will it work? 😄
