BlockBeats News, on November 7, the Ethereum Foundation stated, "After evaluating the scope of the Pectra fork, a successful interoperability event, and four development networks, we are now launching the first short-term Pectra testnet, Mekong."

The Mekong testnet includes all EIP proposals that will be used for the upcoming Ethereum Pectra fork. These changes include user experience (UX) improvements implemented through EIP-7702, staking changes through EIP-7251, and deposit and exit mechanism changes through EIP-6110/EIP-7002, among others.

Mekong is a testing ground for wallet developers to experiment with UX improvements and for stakers to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes. This testnet will be short-term and has fully implemented all features planned for Pectra. While we may see some minor specification changes or smaller EIPs, the features included here will be integrated into the existing public testnet and eventually into the Ethereum mainnet."
