WHEN WILL THE US ELECTION RESULTS BE KNOWN
WHEN WILL THE US ELECTION RESULTS BE KNOWN?
American voters learn who the new president has expanded to late on election night or early the next day.
In 2016, during Trump's first term as president, the results were announced at around 03:00 New York time.
The new US president will officially take the oath of office on January 20, 2025.
WHAT IS THE ELECTION COLLECTION? HOW IS THE US PRESIDENT ELECTED?
In the US, the winner of the election may not be the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide. Electoral college elections are held in 50 states over two days.
Voters elect delegates to be sent to the Electoral College in registered states, and delegates elect the president and vice president. Each state has a certain number of electoral college votes depending on its population.
There are 538 votes, and the day is won by those who receive 270 or more votes. In all states except two, the winning candidate also wins all the delegates. In Maine and Nebraska, the state's delegates are distributed according to the votes of the candidates.
Most states tend to lean toward one party or the other. For this reason, the focus is usually on a dozen or so states that can be won on both days. There have been cases where the candidate who won the most votes nationwide in terms of delegate numbers was not elected president.
The last example of this occurred in 2016. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton failed to win the election because she received 3 million more votes than Republican candidate Donald Trump nationally, but did not receive enough delegates.
Here are the latest poll results from each state:
